How to calculate percentage change

The formula is straightforward: (New Value - Old Value) / |Old Value| x 100. A positive result means an increase. A negative result means a decrease.

Useful for price movements

Traders use percentage change to compare moves across different assets. A stock going from $50 to $55 and another going from $200 to $220 both moved 10%, even though the dollar amounts differ. Percentage change normalizes the comparison.
