How to calculate forex profit

Forex profit is calculated in pips, then converted to dollars. The formula: Profit = Pips x Pip Value. Pip value depends on your lot size and the pair you are trading.

Example trade

You buy EUR/USD at 1.0850 and close at 1.0910. That is 60 pips. On 1 standard lot, pip value is $10. Your profit: 60 x $10 = $600.

JPY pairs are different

For yen pairs like USD/JPY, a pip is 0.01 instead of 0.0001. Use the dropdown above to select the correct pip size. On 1 standard lot of USD/JPY, pip value is approximately $6.50 (varies with exchange rate).

Before you trade

Always calculate your position size and risk/reward ratio before entering any trade. Knowing your potential profit is only useful if you also know your maximum loss.
