How to calculate trading profit

For a long trade: profit = (exit price - entry price) x position size. For a short trade: profit = (entry price - exit price) x position size.

Example

Buy 10 shares at $100, sell at $110. Profit = ($110 - $100) x 10 = $100 (10% return).

Why calculate before entering
