What is margin?

Margin is the amount of money your broker holds as collateral to open a leveraged position. With 10x leverage, a $10,000 position requires $1,000 in margin.

Margin vs leverage

Higher leverage = lower margin required = more positions you can open. But higher leverage also amplifies losses. A 1% price move against you on 100x leverage wipes your entire position.

Safe margin usage

Professional traders rarely use more than 30-40% of their available margin. This leaves room for drawdowns without triggering a margin call.
